Fun at The Race Week Party, 2002!

This year's Race Week Party was fun, with about half-again more people showing up than we planned for, which turned out to be fun! Parking was a little tight, but we still had use of the track (apologies to whomever's BMW I sprayed with gravel while entering the Wall-O'-Death; Richard said it was a "press car", which I take to mean that I don't have to feel guilty).

Some new drivers made dust this time, with Sarah Louwerse having a go at the track (her husband Alan above in the center photo). Also joining the fray: Mr. Thos Bryant, Editor-In-Chief of R&T, having a chance finally to see what all the fuss (and trips up the coast from Newport!) is all about. It was nice to have a chance to meet Mr. Bryant, having heard a lot of nice things over the years.

It looks like the Louwerse's may be building two cars now, as Sarah seems to have caught the bug. She grasped the drivers-should-be-builders-only concept right away, especially after I thrashed the Delage a bit too hard and she was watching. I now to need to demonstrate proper restraint before anyone will let me drive their cars again it seems...

Above: Patrick Hong was tearing up the track in a very smooth style, doing his part to keep the cars warmed up at every opportunity! We promise to have the slot-cars set up next year Patrick. Patrick's wife Elise took a gentle spin in the Type 59; a first for the cars as Elise is more than half-way along in her pregnancy. Well done Elise! Note to Patrick: plans for smaller versions—Micro-CycleKarts—are already in the works. Below is a pic of Elise and Patrick driving NUB120—the rats—in the Thursday Concours drive. Might have been a nicer shot if I could operate the camera properly...

Richard Baron, Steve Kearney, and I get in a traffic jam...
